Press Release

Intermine to Present FileCensus 4.4 at Gartner Data Center Conference

Innovative SRM software provides better approach to storage resource management

LAS VEGAS, NV – December 1, 2009 – Gartner is hosting its 28th Annual Data Center Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, December 1 - 4, 2009 at Caesars Palace. During this event, Intermine— provider of enterprise-wide storage resource management (SRM) solutions—will provide personal demonstrations of its flagship software, FileCensus, which empowers IT administrators to efficiently manage the information lifecycle, improve a company’s storage situation, optimize resources, and avoid the significant cost of hardware dependence.

“Every company has structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.  In our experience, as substantiated by many recent reports, unstructured data, which includes Word and Excel documents, PDF files, MP3s and AVIs, can take up more than 60% of a company’s storage environment. And that data can double in size every year,” explains Martyn McKean, CEO of Intermine. “Our goal is to empower our customers to clean up their storage, rather than manage more. The result is significant cost and time savings.”

FileCensus is an incredibly scalable, highly compressed, and high performing read-only database designed to routinely collect the meta-data about every file, path, and user in an organization’s storage environment (Storage Area Network [SAN]) and keep it historically to enable IT administrators to perform data management solutions including: Data Discovery and Profiling; Capacity Planning; Capacity Recovery; Data Migration; Information Security; Policy/Change/Compliance Management; Chargeback; and Data Automation.

FileCensus helps supply the knowledge without the drawbacks of traditional methods which add to the problem by creating too much information.  When compared to traditional processes, FileCensus executes the discovery process in a matter of days—or even hours—which was never before possible. FileCensus can store billions of records in a space more than 30 times smaller than traditional technology and can randomly access information in the database without having to decompress the information. Ultimately this translates to performance at more than 10 times the speed of traditional databases.

Personal demonstrations of FileCensus will be given in Booth 27. At the booth, press and attendees are encouraged to have direct discussions with representatives from Intermine. To learn more about Gartner’s 28th Annual Data Center Conference, visit www.gartner.com.
