How FileCensus Works

FileCensus is the only product on the market to collect ALL data attributes - hence being a Census not Survey based technology. Even though FileCensus collects the maximum number of file attributes (meta-data) from each server, searching, reporting and custom views of millions of records is still in real time!

The agent compresses the information and sends it to the FileCensus server for long-term storage and analysis. Example of data load: NT or NetWare servers need around 1,000 MB to manage 1,000,000 files. A CSV export of this information is about 300 MB. Zipped is 15MB but compressed. The FileCensus native data store is around 30 MB, or about 2x the size of the ZIP file. FileCensus Analysis Server - Minimum Requirements: Pentium, 256MB RAM, 250MB HD (Windows NT-2003)

Our unique compression technology allows enterprise data to be collected daily to provide historical audit of the file system snapshot and user activity without creating excessive capacity wastage.

Administrators (and optionally users) can browse to the FileCensus Analysis Server and can interactively query the information, without placing loads on the production servers. This browsing is different to other SRM reporting systems because the data captured is holistic (Census not Survey approach) and the user can drill down to any level or examine the data from any angle. Like all data warehouse type applications, users always need the ability to tweak their individual view and FileCensus is the leading product with enterprise network visibility.
