Disaster Recovery
A Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP), also referred to as a Business Continuity Plan (BCP), is used detail how an
organization will respond to potential disaster situations and what impact the disaster, and the recovery process,
will have on the organization. The primary focus of the DRP is to identify how the business processes and continuity
needs of an organization will be affected by a disaster and how to implement precautions to minimize the impact of
the disaster.
Disaster Recovery is becoming an almost mandatory process in modern IT organizations. As IT infrastructure
becomes more complex with the advent of new and emerging technologies, DRPs will become more and more complex.
FileCensus is designed to be extensible enough to grow with an organization's DRP requirements, and flexible
enough to be applied in many Disaster Recovery situations that in the past were not easily resolved. These include:
infrastructure blackouts, server failure, problematic server technology upgrades and storage migration during HSM upgrades.

FileCensus can quickly identify files that have been missed by the backup systems. Many backup programs
remove, or can be configured to remove the archive bit from the file with the backup occurs successfully.
Using this marker FileCensus can globally identify files that are not protected by the backup system. This
simple report provides an excellent sanity check for disaster recovery procedures. Simply use the filter
"not modified within 24 hours and attributes has a" against any of the reports in FileCensus to quickly
and easily identify the vulnerable files in your network.

FileCensus can provide a valuable service both in the event of a recovery situation and ensuring
the smooth operation of the recovery systems. Backup systems can be configured to clear the archival
attribute on files when the file has been successfully protected. Using FileCensus you can quickly
identify the files that are not being protected. More information about this is available on the
backup monitoring page.
